Some Homemade Nutritious & Delicious Snack Options for Diabetics

Diabetes is a common disease worldwide. Apart from elderly people, young adults, men, and women in their late 30s or mid-40s and even children are getting diabetes. If you are a diabetic, you might find it a little hard to get the grab-and-go choices at the grocery stores. The labels reveal a high level of added sugar, sodium, or saturated fat and you refrain from purchasing them. People with diabetes should limit their consumption of these three ingredients.

Fortunately, making some healthy and tasty snacks that people go gaga over in restaurants is not rocket science. Homemade snacks for diabetes patients give them the kind of nutrients they need without using harmful ingredients. Here are a few snack options for diabetics, which you can easily make at your home.

Contrary to popular belief, soup can be a great preparation to snack on. Grocery-favourite canned soup is tempting. Buy it, boil it, and binge on it! The downside is, that it contains a lot of salt to enhance the taste and increase the shelf life. Diabetics are at a higher risk of developing cardiovascular disease. So, you should limit your salt intake to control blood pressure and avoid heart problems.

But store-bought yogurt has a high concentration of sugar. So buy fresh yogurt and add colorful fresh or frozen fruits to it. If needed, you can add your favorite sweetener (jaggery/stevia/honey/maple syrup/ date syrup). This way, you have full control over sweetness and wholesomeness! Moreover, you can make it into an indulgent parfait dessert by adding layers of fruits – yogurt – crunchy granola – repeat!

Granola

Nothing can beat the taste of homemade granola. Like many other snacks, store-bought granola usually contains a lot of added sugar. So, try to make it at home. It takes just a few minutes. You have the flexibility to add different flavors just like you often do with yogurt or healthybreakfast cereals. You can just mix up all your ingredients – oats, nuts of your choice, seeds of your choice, dehydrated fruits if you want (sugar-free), and some coconut oil and a sweetener of your choice (jaggery/stevia/honey/maple syrup/ date syrup) and bake it in your oven. It is a satisfying experience to make grocery-style granola at home. Moreover, it will make your kitchen smell great!
